Bingbangbong – Outdoor Musical Instruments
I am Managing Director of a small online business called bingbangbong Ltd.
2011 celebrates 10 years of making Musical Instruments – quite a long way from a good idea and a credit card!
Bingbangbong manufactures Outdoor Musical Instruments and some sensory items. They are primarily installed in UK school playgrounds and we provide access to accessible learning resources for educational customers.
My designs are also in public parks, forest walks, sound trails & town centres, Indoor Play Areas, one prototype in an IKEA in Poland. They invite investigation and repay in harmony. I and bingbangbong survived an appearance in BBC’s Dragon’s Den. It really only served to accelerate the competition however. Lesson learned!
I worked with STOMP as a consultant Instrument designer for their Lost & Found Orchestra – LFO. It took 6 months of shuttling between Belfast and Brighton but the result was awesome. At one point 88 people on stage. It holds the Box Office Record at Sydney Opera House, ousting Frank Sinatra! I’ve also worked toward designing instruments with James Devine, the world’s Fastest Tap Dancer and his show TapEire.
I worked with John Adams to create the otherworldly children’s band
instruments for Fox/Warner’s City Of Ember. That was a lot of fun to be able to be on the set & see the whole thing being made. I was second in line for the Ford advertisement making instruments from car parts. Damn! The job went to Bill Milbrot in LA who did a great job.
